Cirkus and contemporary music
This summer I worked with sound-design for the new-circus
performance Loop by Cirkus Xanti. New-circus combines traditional circus with theater or elements from other genres. Loop was performed in Oslo, Kristiansand and Sarpsborg. It contained juggling and air-acrobatics with a high international level, clown acts, humor and drama. For me it was interesting that the director Sverre Waage gave me much freedom in choosing the sound and music. We found that the repetetive music of Steve Reich worked very well with with swing-trapeze, and Ellington's version of music from Peer Gynt was a perfect match for the club-juggling.

At the moment I am editing recordings from the Ultima festival, the biggest festival for contemporary music in Scandinavia. For them it was important to document the world premieres, and among the recordings it is new written music by Magne Hegdal, Emil Bernhardt and Gisle Kverndokk.

Free-improv record recieves good review in Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten

The new CD from Håvard Volden and Toshimaru Nakamura, CREPUSCULAR RAYS, features quiet and contlemplative improvised music. Aftenpostens reviewer, ARILD R. ANDERSEN, is surprised to see that this slow music can be so unpredictable, it is full of "sound-surprises". The album gets the grade 5 out of 6. Full review in Norwegian:

http://oslopuls.aftenposten.no/musikk/article353977.ece

The album was recorded by Morten at the Free Resonans festival in 2008. Volden plays guitar and electronics, and Nakamura's instrument is "no input mixer. His sound is created by noise and feedback-loops in electronic equipment..

Our studio is now ready for projects
We can now offer recording and editing in a professional music-production studio in Oslo. The main room is 50m2 and has good acoustics for drums and live bands. In addition we have iso-rooms for vocals and instruments that need separation. The control-room has racks full of great gear, vintage and modern. With this place we hope to make many important recordings in the years to come!

At this year's Oslo Jazz Festival we will record the concert with the band Six Pack feat. Erling Wicklund. It's our fourth concecutive year with recordings from that festival. We are proud that mr. Wicklund has hired us for this job, because he is a legendary jazzman in Norwegian radio.

In september we will work with Inkululeko Cultural group, a choir whose speciality is choral music from the south of Africa.

Next week we will be producing a demo with the so far unknown band Mixed Martian Arts.

But we still have capacity to do new projects in August and September.
